BURGAW—As of June 28, the new Pender County Public Defender Office has been open for business.
Unanimous support from the Pender County Local Bar and local court officials drove discussions about potentially opening an office there.
After The Honorable J. H. Corpening II, Chief District Court Judge for North Carolina’s Judicial District 5 (New Hanover County) and New Hanover County Chief Public Defender Jennifer Harjo advocated for expansion there, legislators saw the need and agreed to make way for a new public defender office in Pender County.
